FMA Senior Consultant (New York)

Position Summary

FMA seeks an individual with a passion for nonprofit excellence. The Senior Consultant will work with the FMA Outsourcing team in our New York City offices to provide accounting services and be a strategic partner with our clients in and around the New York City area. The Senior Consultant reports to FMA Lead Consultants and Directors. As a senior role, this position participates in high level accounting/financial services and supervises, mentors, and helps train other FMA staff and/or client staff. 15 – 25% travel should be expected.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Outsourcing team in completion of basic accounting requirements for FMA clients.
  • Delivers not-for-profit financial Outsourcing services; including but not limited to: budget development, cash flow planning, software implementation, training, senior level accounting services, and audit support packages.
  • Represent the client during the audit process.
  • Present to outside clients, Boards of Directors and FMA Team members on an as-needed basis.
  • Responsible for business development in the position’s region (e.g., expanding existing relationships and / or cultivating new relationships).
  • Participate in planning and case management activities when applicable.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Business Administration (or similar field) with a major in accounting required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an accountant in a nonprofit setting or Public Accounting.
  • CPA preferred, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of Fund Accounting Software products (e.g., Financial Edge, Fund EZ, Intacct), Excel and Microsoft Office required
  • Previous consulting and “people management” experience preferred
  • Must be collaborative, possess high levels of initiative and independence and be flexible and adaptable (to meet changing client demands)
  • Must have excellent communication skills (including active listening), a strong customer service orientation and impactful relationship building skills
